Kékkút: Theodora Trail, Spring and Village History

A circular trail with 15 nature stations

The Theodora Trail is an 8 km circular route that can be explored on foot. The 8 km circular route between the Theodora-Kereki Spring, the Sásdi Stream and Lake Kornyi makes it easy to plan a walk in Kékkút. The Theodora Trail can be visited free of charge all year round. This year-round, free access makes the trail suitable for planning a day trip to Kékkút regardless of the season.

The Theodora Trail begins at the bottling plant of Kékkúti Ásványvíz Zrt. at the Theodora-Kereki Spring. From this starting point, the route follows the Sásdi Stream towards Lake Kornyi. As a circular route, the trail returns to the starting point at the Theodora-Kereki Spring. The 15 stations complement this circular route with nature-related topics. The Theodora Trail has 15 stations where the natural features of the surrounding area are presented. The sequence of starting point, stream, destination and stations gives the trail a clear spatial and thematic framework.

Information boards in English make it easier for foreign visitors to find their way along the Theodora Trail. Those who use the English-language information receive additional guidance along the route.

Szent Dömötör Church in Kékkút

Szent Dömötör Church in Kékkút was built in 1716. Its present-day Baroque form dates from 1760. Visitors interested in culture can include the church, with its construction dates of 1716 and 1760, in their visit to Kékkút. The two dated milestones belong to the same building and refer to its construction as well as to its present-day Baroque appearance.

Kékkúti Tájház and Rural Life

The Kékkúti Tájház is housed in an 18th-century residential building that is a vernacular architectural monument. The house includes a smoke kitchen and a thatched roof; the Tájház also includes the associated stable. The complex thus combines the residential building and the stable within the Tájház.

Today’s Kékkúti Tájház is located in the oldest house in Kékkút, which the Egyed family had built in 1799. At the Kékkúti Tájház, visitors can learn about rural household management, material culture and agriculture in the early 20th century. Those interested in local history and rural life can explore both the history of the house and the various aspects of life in the early 20th century.

Theodora Spring and Mineral Water

Today, with its tall shade-providing trees and benches, the Theodora Spring is a popular resting place for walkers and cyclists. For walks or cycling tours in Kékkút, the spring can be planned as a resting place with trees and benches.

Bottling of Kékkút mineral water began in 1907. The water from the Theodora Spring has been known since Roman times. The subject of mineral water therefore includes both the start of bottling in 1907 and the water’s fame dating back to Roman times.
