The Mezőföld and Somogyi-halomvidék landscapes meet in Ságvár. The first hills of Somogyi-halomvidék encircle the village in a semicircle, offering panoramas of Lake Balaton, its northern shore, Ságvár and the surrounding countryside. Landscape and Views
Vineyards, orchards, wine cellars and weekend houses dot the slopes. They give the landscape around Ságvár a variety of features: alongside the hills, these uses of the land are part of the local scene. If you want to take the landscape into account when choosing a holiday destination, the panoramas offer a specific point of reference. The views encompass not only the surroundings but also Lake Balaton and its northern shore.
Earthworks and Local History
Böre-vár is an earthwork fort within the boundaries of Ságvár. It lies five kilometres southwest of Ságvár on the south side of the Jaba Valley and measures 150 × 57 metres. Its location connects it to the broader landscape: the archaeological structure is not in the village centre, but it is within the boundaries of Ságvár.
The Reformed Church also offers a glimpse into local history. The present church was built from 1811 to 1814 under the direction of Csicsvai Vasas András. The Reformed congregation funded construction with money from the share of the harvest. Tricciana Park is right next to the church. It commemorates the Roman fortification and brings this historical period to life through archaeological research and excavations. The church and park thus represent different historical connections in the same place.
Another story links Ságvár with the pilgrimage route to Andocs. Képes-fa, an oak tree thought to be more than 300 years old on the road to Jaba puszta, was a resting place for pilgrims travelling on foot to the pilgrimage site. The tree takes its name from an image of Saint Vendel, placed there in 1930 by pilgrims from Székesfehérvár. The tree’s story thus links a local stopping point along the route with the religious destination in Andocs.
Routes and Places to Visit
Bujó-lik, also known as Lyukas-domb, is a tunnel on Lándor-hegy. In 2013, it was reported to be 21.6 metres long, about two metres wide and 1.75 metres high on average. Its length and height gradually decrease. From the village centre, you can reach the tunnel by following the yellow trail markers for about 1.5 kilometres; check the route markers locally before setting out.
The Löszölő-Tökölő hiking challenges also grew out of the natural surroundings: Ságvárért Egyesület developed the route to notable and distinctive places in Ságvár and its surroundings. The Megalöszölő/Löszölő/Tökölő hiking challenge was held annually in July from 2007 onwards. The shady woods around Ságvár are also ideal for walks.
