Discover nature and take in the views

The Pele-körút is an interactive, playful nature trail about wildlife that leaves traces in the local environment. It also introduces indicators of stream pollution and 30 species of woody and herbaceous plants. The geological history of the Balaton Uplands is another subject: the trail offers insights into events from the past 500 million years. In this way, a walk of around 30 minutes brings together a range of nature and learning topics. The trail is freely accessible every day; on weekdays, you can request a knowledgeable guide. Check seasonal arrangements before your trip.

There are two different places in Csopak to enjoy the views. The Csákány-hegyi Kilátó lookout tower offers views of the Bakony Mountains and the eastern basin of Lake Balaton. From the birdwatching shelter at Madárles és kerékpáros pihenő, you can look across the reed beds and Lake Balaton towards Paloznak and Alsóörs. If the landscape is a priority, you can take these viewpoints into account when planning, without treating them as a single lookout point.

Cycling and a stop along the way

The Csopak section of the Balatoni Bringakörút includes the Madárles és kerékpáros pihenő ecological cycling rest area. The site has a nature trail and play equipment. So, alongside the cycling route itself, there is also a place to connect with nature. The view from the birdwatching shelter adds a panorama of the reeds and lake to the cycling experience. If cycling is an important part of your trip, this section is a specific point of reference when choosing Csopak.

Wine tradition and history

The local wine identity is also reflected in the traditional name Csopaki, which refers to a wine made from Olaszrizling grapes. This grape variety has shaped Csopak’s vineyards since the late 19th century. In 2012, local winemakers founded the Csopaki Kódex to protect the region’s viticulture and wine culture, as well as the reputation and quality of its traditional wine.

The Tóth Pince offers wine tastings and wine sales at the winery throughout the year, by prior appointment. The building, with stone vaulting and clay mortar joints, was built in 1837. Its attic houses a small local history exhibition with a wine collection. The traditional objects on display include items associated with reed cutters, winemakers, winegrowers, blacksmiths and coopers, as well as a shoemaker’s tool kit and kitchen utensils from the early 20th century. If you are planning a tasting, arranging an appointment in advance is essential; here, winegrowing and local history can be explored together.

Other historic sites include Plul Mill, a building preserved as an industrial monument that houses a local history collection, and the Angolkisasszonyok nyaralója. This building was the holiday home in Csopak of the Sisters of the English Institute for their teachers and was built around the turn of the 20th century. Together with the exhibition at Tóth Pince, these buildings add a cultural and historical dimension to your stay.

What to consider when choosing accommodation

You can plan a visit to Csopak around different interests: the Pele-körút combines a walk with nature topics, the Csopak section of the Balatoni Bringakörút puts the focus on cycling, and Tóth Pince adds wine tastings and sales by appointment to the local wine tradition. Viewpoints and historic buildings offer further themes to consider when choosing your destination. Before booking, think about which of these interests matters most for your trip, and if you plan to attend a wine tasting, arrange an appointment directly in advance.

If you’d like to compare other places: Balatonalmádi, Taliándörögd, Balatonszolos, Balatonfenyves, Látrány, Paloznak and Zalaszántó.
