Tüskevár and local history
Tüskevár is the oldest part of Sármellék and is also associated with the novel by Hungarian writer István Fekete. The Hungarian film Tüskevár is also part of the local story: the former railway station building and its surroundings are connected with the film. The long-unused station building was renovated as part of the project to establish the Két Tölgy Information Centre. The building’s current connection to the information centre and its earlier film connection give it different roles in local history.
Other notable buildings include the protected Church of St John the Baptist, built in the Neoclassical style between 1839 and 1842. A Baroque Holy Trinity monument stands in front of the church. Saint Sebastian, Saint Wendelin and Saint Florian are depicted on its pedestal. The cemetery also contains the so-called Bogyai Chapel, with a new funeral hall added to it.
